" The use of peritoneal washings (PWs) for the assessment of gynecologic neoplastic disease has an established history, and has been used in the settings of ovarian, endometrial, cervical, and nongynecologic neoplasms.1, 2 Although numerous publications have heralded the cytomorphologic features of ovarian carcinoma in PWs, fewer reports have addressed the features of borderline tumors in these specimens; some have shown that the examination of PWs is an effective means with which to identify peritoneal extension of ovarian tumors of low malignant potential.3 The identification of tumors of borderline malignancy is inherently more challenging, taking the interpretation of cytologic specimens to another level of difficulty.....
