NCI Cancer Bulletin for April 21, 2009 - National Cancer Institute: "The current guidelines of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force do not recommend ovarian cancer screening with CA-125. Earlier this month another study using PLCO data concluded that screening women for ovarian cancer often led to unnecessary surgeries and failed to detect the disease in its early stages."
The current guidlines of the U. S. Preventive Services Task Force need to be UPDATED in light of this new finding.
ReplyDeleteFor the readers, please explain in detail. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCA-125 is the single, best biomarker for early detected of ovarian cancer.
ReplyDeleteThese results do not provide evidence sufficient to change existing guidelines. In fact and unfortunately, there has been no change from what has already been known for decades. Dr Jacobs (UK) published in 1999 what really was the first large study using the CA125/ultrasound with virtually the same results(a study of 22,000 women). Please also search this Blog for the concurrent UK study, 200,000 women, with interim results also recently published.
