New study alters long-held beliefs about shingles (herpes zoster virus)

  1. My daughter had chicken pox when she was 5 and shingles in her early 20's. My son had chicken pox at 1 and half and got shingles at 16 years old. My son's pediatrician was so excited to see "Zoster!" in the form of shingles not chicken pox. Interesting article.

  2. I could have told them that the idea you get shingles only once was a myth. When I was on chemo, I ended up with shingles in my right eye and had a recurrence later that ultimately cause permanent scarring in my eye. The damage is somewhat compensated for by glasses. Without my glasses the moon looks like it is sticking out it’s touge…really creates some weird visuals.

  3. Thanks especially for sharing your information regarding shingles/eye. Having had shingles in the abdominal/pelvic area is certainly much less onerous than that involving the face. I never have understood the timing of my onset of shingles however as it certainly didn't fall within the 'established' criteria.
