Conclusion
Epithelial ovarian cancer is not a single disease, but a heterogeneous
group of neoplasms. Classification on the basis of morphological,
immunohystochemical, and genetic analysis and progresses in
understanding the molecular background of carcinogenesis contributes to
identify specific and unique tumours subtypes with different behaviour,
prognosis, and response to chemotherapy.
The current indications for the medical treatment of epithelial
ovarian cancer are the same, independently from histological subtypes.
It is hoped that the current one size-for-all chemotherapy regimens will
evolve into genetic-specific treatments based on molecular markers.
