On May 18, 2016 new data from cancer registries in India was presented
at a workshop at the Indian Council of Medical Research headquarters
(ICMR; New Delhi, India). The report
showed emerging trends in cancer incidence in India, such as the
increase in lung cancer in women and colon cancer in men. Consolidated
reports of 27 population-based and 17 hospital-based registries for
2012–14 show that breast cancer is the most common cancer in India and
continues to increase in incidence. Cancers of the uterus, ovary, and
lung are increasing in women in urban areas, whereas overall incidence
of cervical cancer is decreasing.
