 To the Editor We congratulate Scott and colleagues1 for their excellent study on the use of national burden to define operative emergency general surgery. In their study,1 they elaborate on 7 operative emergency general surgery procedures that account for approximately 80% of the national burden in terms of frequency, morbidity, mortality, and cost.
