RANZCOG College Statement on prophylactic oophorectomy in older women undergoing hysterectomy for benign disease: Is the evidence sufficient to change practice?
Conclusion: A survey of gynaecologists revealed that few currently appear to adhere to the College Statement regarding prophylactic oophorectomy at the time of hysterectomy for benign disease. High quality evidence regarding either harm or benefit following retention of ovaries after menopause is lacking. Nevertheless, dialogue between clinicians and patients on this topic is important.

abstract: Should we centralise care for the patient suspected of having ovarian malignancy?
CONCLUSION: In women with an adnexal mass, a diagnostic strategy prior to the decision for surgery by a general gynaecologist or a gynaecological oncologist provides the best balance between costs and effects.

(references SGO presentation) PCPs less likely to refer patients to gynecologic oncologists | HemOncToday
"..........Just 39.3% of family physicians and 51% of internists reported that they would refer the patient to the gynecologic oncologist. They were much more likely to refer their patients to obstetrician-gynecologists. Among obstetrician-gynecologists, however, two-thirds reported that they would refer a patient with abdominal pain and a suspicious ovarian mass to a gynecologic oncologist.........One-third of the obstetrician-gynecologists reported that they would operate on the patient themselves.........."
