BRCA1 mRNA expression and outcome to neoadjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy in bladder cancer — Ann Oncol

Background:
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has shown a modest benefit in muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients; however, the subset of patients most likely to benefit has not been identified. BRCA1 plays a central role in DNA repair pathways and low BRCA1 expression has been associated with sensitivity to cisplatin and longer survival in lung and ovarian cancer patients.

Conclusions:
Our data suggest that BRCA1 expression may predict the efficacy of cisplatin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy and may help to customize therapy in bladder cancer patients.

Oncogene - Abstract (technical): Cadherin switching and activation of p120 catenin signaling are mediators of gonadotropin-releasing hormone to promote tumor cell migration and invasion in ovarian cancer

Definition: Cadherins - (Calcium dependant adhesion molecules) are a class of type-1 transmembrane proteins. They play important roles in cell adhesion.
Definition: Gonadotropin - hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland and placenta; stimulates the gonads and controls reproductive activity. A hormone that stimulates the ovaries (such as to produce estrogen).

"These results identify for the first time cadherin switching and p120ctn signaling as important targets of GnRH function and as novel mediators of invasiveness and tumor progression in ovarian cancer."

MRI in the planning of initial lumpectomy for invasive breast carcinoma: effect on ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence after breast conserving therapy

CONCLUSION: MRI evaluation of invasive carcinoma in the planning of initial lumpectomies was not associated with improved local outcomes after BCS (breast conserving surgery) with RT in this cohort of patients.
